scars & scarring
What is a scar?
A scar is a mark that remains after a wound heals. Ideally, they are smooth and flat, blending in with surrounding skin. However, depending on the scar's location and size, and the child's age, nutrition, genetics, or likelihood of infection, some scars can become much more noticeable.
What causes scars?
Most often, scars are the result of injuries such as cuts, scrapes, bug bites, burns, and dog bites. Other kinds of scars come from skin diseases caused by bacteria, fungus, or viruses like chicken pox. Many kids also experience scarring from stitches and various surgeries like appendectomies or cleft palate repair. MEDERMA® for Kids™ is effective in treating all of these types of scars.
Why is it so important to treat children's scars?
Minimizing the appearance of scars can help prevent children from feeling self-conscious. The sooner you start using MEDERMA® for Kids™, the sooner scarring will become less noticeable.
